As an RTO owner or marketer, it can be overwhelming to know where to start with marketing your training organisation. That’s why having a marketing plan and checklist can be incredibly helpful in ensuring that you are taking the necessary steps to promote your RTO effectively. In this article, we’ll provide you with an RTO marketing checklist that covers everything from research and analysis to advertising and tracking. At the bottom is a checklist to work through. Let’s get started!
Compliance
Include your RTO code in all marketing materials: Your RTO code is a registration code provided to your RTO on the National Register. Ensure that your marketing materials, including those for training products, courses, and qualifications, include your correct RTO code. If you have a third-party agreement with another RTO but you deliver the training, ensure that your RTO code is present on those marketing materials as well. If you use a third-party RTO for training and certification, ensure that their RTO code is present in your marketing materials.
Properly use the Nationally Recognised Training label: Only marketing materials for nationally recognised training can include the NRT logo. Separate your marketing materials for nationally recognised training from those for other training products. Use only the official NRT logo from ASQA, and obtain it by sending an email from an RTO contact listed on the National Register.
Display the correct course code and full title on every training product marketing medium: Ensure that your marketing and recruitment materials include the code and full title of the training product as listed on the National Register. This will avoid confusion among potential learners and ensure consistent information about the training is provided, regardless of the RTO offering it.
Research and Analysis
The first step in any marketing strategy is to conduct research and analysis. You need to define your target audience, analyze your competition, and identify your key selling points. Your target audience is the group of people who are most likely to enroll in your RTO courses. It’s essential to understand their needs, pain points, and motivations. Analyzing your competition will help you identify areas where you can differentiate your RTO from others. Finally, your key selling points are the features or benefits that set your RTO apart from others.
Branding
Your brand is how people perceive your RTO. It’s essential to create a clear and consistent brand identity that aligns with your target audience and key selling points. Your brand identity should include a tagline and mission statement, a professional logo, and a visual style guide that includes colors, fonts, and imagery. It’s essential to ensure that your brand is consistent across all marketing channels to build recognition and trust with your audience.
Website
Your website is often the first point of contact that potential students have with your RTO. It’s crucial to make a good impression. Your website should be user-friendly, with a clear call to action that encourages visitors to take the next step in their learning journey. It’s also essential to optimize your website for search engines to increase visibility and drive traffic. Finally, your website should be mobile-friendly to ensure that it’s accessible to users on all devices.
Content Marketing
Content marketing is a powerful way to attract potential students to your RTO. It involves creating quality content that informs, educates, or entertains your target audience. To develop a content marketing strategy, start by identifying the topics and themes that are relevant to your audience. Then, create a content calendar that outlines the types of content you’ll create and when you’ll publish them. Finally, promote your content through social media, email marketing, and other channels to reach a wider audience.
Social Media
Social media is an excellent way to connect with your target audience and build brand awareness. However, it’s essential to choose the right social media platforms for your audience. For example, LinkedIn may be a better platform for targeting professionals, while Instagram may be better for targeting younger audiences. Develop a social media marketing plan that includes creating engaging and shareable content, responding to comments and messages, and monitoring your social media metrics to track your success.
Email Marketing
Email marketing is a highly effective way to promote your RTO and stay connected with your audience. It involves building an email list of potential and current students and sending regular newsletters, promotions, and updates. To build your email list, offer an incentive such as a free ebook or course in exchange for signing up. Then, create a content plan that includes valuable information and promotions that keep your audience engaged with your RTO.
Advertising
Advertising can be a powerful way to reach potential students and promote your RTO. However, it’s important to develop a targeted advertising strategy that resonates with your audience. To do this, start by choosing the right advertising channels for your target market. For example, if your audience is primarily active on social media, then consider running social media ads. On the other hand, if your audience is more likely to use search engines to find information, then consider running search engine ads.
Once you’ve identified the right channels, it’s important to create effective ads that capture the attention of your target audience. This could include using eye-catching visuals, compelling copy, and clear calls-to-action. By tailoring your advertising to the needs and interests of your target audience, you can increase the likelihood of converting them into enrolled students.
Tracking and Analytics
It’s important to use tracking and analytics tools to measure the success of your marketing efforts. This can help you understand which tactics are working well and which ones need to be improved. For example, if you’re running social media ads, you can use analytics tools to see how many people are clicking on your ads, how long they’re staying on your website, and whether or not they’re taking action (e.g. filling out a form, signing up for a course).
By tracking these metrics, you can adjust your strategy and tactics to better meet the needs and interests of your target audience. For example, if you notice that your website is receiving a lot of traffic from mobile devices, you may want to optimize your site for mobile to improve the user experience. Alternatively, if you’re not seeing much engagement on social media, you may want to reconsider your content strategy or advertising channels. Overall, tracking and analytics tools can help you make data-driven decisions that improve the effectiveness of your marketing efforts.
